Is 2024 finally going to be the year of VR? The Apple Vision Pro started taking preorders yesterday and has apparently been selling out. Google, Samsung, and Sony are also set to release new headsets as well. For someone who has been using VR since the Oculus Rift DK1, this is an exciting time! One of my only concerns is that Apple’s attempts to rebrand VR/AR/XR as spatial computing might have negative effects on the industry long term. They have a knack of wiping out helpful options like stylus pens, keyboards, and headphone jacks just by deeming them “uncool”…
For now, let’s go back to another VR headset. This art from HOJI features a nekomimi who was using an HTC Vive to play Beat Saber. It looks like she really worked up a sweat! Sadly, she was not expecting someone to walk in on her… As a Valve Index owner, I know a good VR session can be a good workout! That said, I do spend a lot of time watching VR videos… Hopefully, more people will find out what works best for them in VR this year.
