I just finished the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter, and that means it’s finally time to talk about Neferpitou! Let’s start with the elephant in the room: is Neferpitou a catgirl? Not only has Neferpitou’s gender never been confirmed, but they are also a Chimera Ant. That said, I am very sure Pitou counts as catgirl-related. Without a doubt, there is cat DNA in there, and Pitou might be one of the most impressive cat persons I have seen!
Neferpitou has been referred to as both male and female. Their true gender never really came up and honestly seems inconsequential. The biology of Chimera Ants was also never really covered in depth. We do know the queen of the Chimera Ants eats other species and uses their DNA to give birth to hybrids. Pitou was born as one of the three Royal Guards. This not only makes them one of the strongest Chimera Ants but possibly one of the strongest Nen users in Hunter x Hunter.
Nen powers aside, Neferpitou is very cat-like. This includes enhanced senses, instincts, speed, and reflexes. Despite these feral traits, Pitou is also very intelligent. That makes them a fearsome foe who can be adorable at times but brutal at others. If you are wondering how someone can go from being cute one moment and committing atrocities the next, I would say that is one of the greatest features of cats.
Not only do I think Neferpitou is one of the best cats out there, but others feel the same. They ranked sixth in the third character popularity poll conducted by Weekly Shōnen Jump, making them the most popular Chimera Ant. Pitou is undoubtedly the best ant and cat. One of the best things about Hunter x Hunter is that the villains can outshine the heroes. I highly recommend it, even if it will take about 78 episodes to see Neferpitou!
