Well, here we are again with some of the kemonomimi from Interspecies Reviewers. This anime became famous after it was canceled in most places for being too sexually explicit. Although this only boosted the popularity of the series real-life sex workers do not have it so easy. OnlyFans is banning sexually explicit content from their platform creating a new mass exodus of internet refugees.
For those who do not know OnlyFans allows users to sell videos and photos exclusively to subscribers. Many women started to use the platform to sell adult content. This was a massive success for both the platform and these users. Several cosplayers I know have OnlyFans accounts including catgirl cosplayers like Kali Neko and Nekostrophic. From what I have gathered the site wishes to attract more investors by getting rid of sexually explicit content. Youtuber Philip DeFranco has a good segment with the details.
This has left many content creators on the platform feeling betrayed. The platform brought in over 2 billion dollars last year. Although we do not know the breakdown the site is most famous for the content it is now trying to ban. As one Twitter user puts it, “OnlyFans banning porn is like a strip club announcing that it’s main business is going to be serving Chicken wings now. Haven’t seen a company shoot itself in the foot since Tumblr. It’s corporate suicide.”
This reminds me of when I started this site. It was after IGN shut down MyIGN and with it my old blog. I became sick of being at the mercy of digital slumlords and decided to make my own site. I know this route is not for everyone. Still, this is a reminder of the power that digital platforms hold. I can only hope that the digital refugees OnlyFans has created can find new homes. As for OnlyFans itself, only time will tell its fate…
So what do you think?
