I finally got to watch Reincarnated as a Sword, and it was much better than I was expecting. If you did not read my earlier post this anime is an isekai in which a man dies and is reborn as a sword. He teams up with a catgirl slave named Fran and helps her fight for her freedom. That was about everything I knew about the show back then.
It turns out that was all covered in the first episode. Fran gives the sword the name Shishou, translated as “Teacher” and he shares the skills he has acquired with her. This makes Fran way stronger than she should be. Black cats like her are considered to be weak and are subject to terrible racism. Fran wants to use her newfound teacher and skills to overcome the odds and become the first black cat to evolve. The story is heartwarming but dark and brutal. Be prepared for a mixture of catgirl cuteness and medieval violence! It is jarring in the best possible way. I hope we get a second season. If not, I might have to read the novel…
