For a little over a year now, it has been nearly impossible to avoid this promiscuous bunny version of Miku Hatsune. She has been flooding timelines and inspiring cosplay everywhere. This led me to think, who is this non-Brazilian Miku?
This morning, I went down the rabbit hole and discovered that the origins of this version of Miku are quite traditional. She literally comes from a Vocaloid song by famous music producer Deco*27. The song is conveniently named “Rabbit Hole.” It originally debuted on May 19, 2023. Despite the provocative lyrics, the song gained popularity only after a derivative fan animation called “Pure, Pure” was released on February 7, 2024. This animation went viral and shot the song up on the charts across the world.
After listening to “Rabbit Hole” for the first time this morning, I must admit it is surprisingly good. It is quite easy to get swept up in Miku’s familiar voice and miss the sensual lyrics. The official English translation starts with the killer opening line, “Gonna be a smitten mitten till the day you die?” and the line, “If you get lonely, find anybody, just get lucky” is repeated multiple times. Also included in what I think is the chorus [I am no music expert] is the line, “So why don’t you kiss up and shake your cottontail?” It is some pretty saucy stuff!
Needless to say, Rabbit Hole Miku has become a part of internet history. I, for one, am just happy to see Vocaloid still going strong. Although I still prefer cats, I will admit this bunny is special. Thank you for going down this Rabbit Hole with me!
So what do you think?
