Last night, I was hit by an unexpected blast from the past—images of Kit Ballard from Blade Kitten started popping up across my feed! For those unfamiliar, Blade Kitten is a side-scrolling action game released back in September 2010 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It stars the pink-haired, cat-eared bounty hunter Kit Ballard as she navigates the artificial alien planetoid Hollow Wish, hunting for a target named Terra-Li—only to uncover far more than she bargained for.
The game had a distinct anime-inspired art style, fast-paced gameplay, and a quirky charm that made it stand out at the time, even if it didn’t reach mainstream success. Beyond the game, there was also an official comic series—and even a spin-off comic centered on Kit’s no-nonsense rival, Justice Kreel.
Despite the franchise lying dormant for over a decade, it seems the fandom is still alive and kicking. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why the art was resurfacing now, but it warmed my heart to see Kit trending again. Creator Steve Stamatiadis, also known as Space Captain Steve, did a full playthrough of the game as recently as October 2023, and he continues to share new Kit artwork on his Patreon.
While Blade Kitten may not have been a blockbuster, its universe was colorful, weird, and full of potential. I’d love to see Kit Ballard make a comeback—whether in a remaster, sequel, or even just a new comic.
Thank you, Space Captain Steve, for creating such a unique and memorable world. Here’s hoping we haven’t seen the last of Hollow Wish!
So what do you think?
