This is a sad week for Hololive fans. On April 15, 2025, Gawr Gura announced her Hololive graduation. Not only has she been active for almost 5 years, but Gawr is also the most subscribed VTuber in the world! She broke the news in a heartbreaking stream on her YouTube Channel
Gawr Gura cited “disagreements with management and company direction” as her reason for leaving Hololive. She will be “graduating” on May 1st, 2025. COVER Corporation, the owner of Hololive, released a statement that reeks of corporate speak shortly after. Although their statement acknowledges that Gawr became “a beloved face for VTubing in its early stages, and played an instrumental role in the growth of hololive production” and that they, “are endlessly grateful for Gura’s remarkable contributions and wish her nothing but success and happiness on her journey forward” they avoid any mention of her reasons for deciding to leave. Instead, they let everyone know that they “will provide separate announcements about merchandise related to Gawr Gura through the hololive production OFFICIAL SHOP”
How will the internet survive without its favorite little shark? She has brought so much joy to people all over the world. Right now, we can only hope for the best. With talent like hers, I’m sure she will do well. Maybe at some point in the future, she can share the details with the world. For now, get some rest, little shark catgirl!
