Do you know about Wayforward? They are an independent game developer that got its start back in 1990. With that said, you might know them best for their more recent games like River City Girls, Mighty Switch Force!, and Shantae. What you may not know is that back in 2013, Wayforward set out to make a game that “Surpassed the limits of both logic and Game Design”, be “All things to all people” and “That Blended all genres into one mighty space opera”. If you are wondering how they could do this, the answer is simple… Catgirls!
That is right! Wayforward created a game called Cat Girl Without Salad: Amuse-Bouche. Although it started as an April Fools’ Day joke, the demand for this fake game was so high that they actually developed it! The game stars a catgirl bounty hunter named Kebako. Despite the promises of the April Fool’s Day joke, the gameplay in the final game mostly resembles a classic 2D shoot-’em-up. They do mix things up by using weapons inspired by multiple game genres. Even though Cat Girl Without Salad: Amuse-Bouche never became a franchise, it was still used in the above art for the WayForward Chat podcast, which inspired today’s post!
