Frieren has got to be one of the best anime series I have seen in a while. Instead of the usual isekai tropes, we get a story that explores life, death, and what we leave behind. Frienren is an elf with a life span that far surpasses that of humans. It is because of this that she does not often let herself get close to anyone. That is until she joins Hilmal’s party on a quest to defeat the demon lord. This, however, is not how the story starts. It starts after Himmel’s death.
To Frieren the time they spent together defeating the demon lord was but an instant. Her time with Hilmal came and went before she could really appreciate the bond they shared. This sends her on a quest to a fabled land where she can talk to the dead and see him one last time. The quest conveniently follows the same route she took to defeat the demon lord with him. This leads to her reliving the past and sharing some of it with her new party. It is a heartwarming tale of just how precious the time we spend with others really is. It is a safe recommendation for anyone.
